In today's Nintendo Direct, there was an announcement of a new DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe featuring 48 remastered courses from past Mario Kart games, coming out in 6 different waves.
One interesting point is that the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass can be purchased as standalone downloadable content for $29.99 USD OR is available for free with the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pass, which includes N64 and Sega Genesis games.
However there is one caveat, that was unclear with the Nintendo Direct video from North America, it doesn't specifically mention in the fine print that the bonus courses are only accessible if you have an active Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pass. In other words, once your expansion pass expires, you will no longer be able to play on the DLC courses.
You cannot simply just pay for the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pass for one year and keep the DLC courses.
The UK Nintendo Direct is very clear in the fine print: "Active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership required to access DLC at no additional cost.
So for those who want to "own" the remastered courses, you will need to buy the standalone DLC in order to have them with your copy of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
