Luigi's Mansion 3 has a throwback to New Donk City Hall
Luigi's Mansion 3 was just released for the Nintendo Switch this week on October 31 - a super fitting day given it's Halloween and the spooky theme of the series!
Once you start up the game, during the opening scene, Mario, Luigi, Peach and a bunch of Toads are on their way for a vacation at a hotel called "The Last Resort". It's actually a bright sunny day and they look like they're going to have a blast at this hotel/resort out in the mountains. Wait, where's the dark and scary theme?

But wait, doesn't this building look familiar? The first thing that popped into my mind when I started playing Luigi's Mansion 3 is that this hotel looks an awful lot like the New Donk City Hall in Super Mario Odyssey!

The two buildings have a very similar structure in that they are both tall Art Deco style buildings, in the style of the Empire State Building in New York City, which obviously is what the New Donk City Hall is based off of. However, the hotel does not have a spire at the top of the building. The city hall also appears to have more floors, so it's a taller building.
Of course, given that this is a newly released game, I don't want to spoil things. But it's kind of obvious that this isn't exactly a happy-go-lucky game as you can see from screenshots and trailers, so don't expect the hotel to continue to look so cheerful and bright! Because things will change...
Is the similarity between the two buildings just a coincidence? Or could we see more things in Luigi's Mansion 3 that tie into Super Mario Odyssey or other games? We will have to wait and see!
