Will Super Mario Sunshine come to Switch in 2020?
One game that many Super Mario fans have a love/hate relationship for is Super Mario Sunshine, which was released for the Nintendo GameCube back in 2002.
Will we see Mario and Yoshi appear in Super Mario Sunshine for the Switch in 2020?
Although Sunshine was popular at the time of the release, as Mario's second 3D platforming adventure, it's been looked back upon as a bit of a collect-a-thon, with a troublesome camera that led to many difficult sections.
The Super Mario Galaxy games for Wii and Super Mario Sunshine for the Nintendo Switch tend to draw more of their gameplay from Super Mario 64, with the long jumps, high jumps, triple jumps and the like.
When looking back, the tropical theme of Isle Delfino in Super Mario Sunshine seemed to make it more like a one-off game, it didn't even seem to fit the Mario universe much due to the environment and the heavy use of the F.L.U.D.D. device. Throughout much of the game you were just spraying water to attack enemies and to clean up graffiti, it's different, but just felt kind of odd.
The "traditional" platforming in bonus areas was downright brutal when you don't have F.L.U.D.D. It just really didn't feel right, and Mario was missing his long jump and backflips which are far more intuitive.
As of right now, Nintendo has not announced a single Mario game for the Nintendo Switch in 2020. Though at some point this will certainly change.
There's been growing steam on the internet about fans wanting to see a return of Super Mario Sunshine, despite it being a less than stellar experience. Perhaps it is because it will have been 18 years since Sunshine came out, and kids from that generation want to re-experience this game again.
An enhanced port might not be a bad idea, provided they fix the camera issues, plus add a few bonus areas. It would probably be unlikely to have a Super Mario Sunshine 2 sequel, it seems unprecedented for Nintendo to make a sequel to a Mario game that many years later.
Another option that could work is for Nintendo to release a few bonus Sunshine-themed stages added into Super Mario Odyssey as a DLC package.
