Is that a Metroid helmet in Paper Mario: The Origami King?

In the just-released trailer for Paper Mario: The Origami King, near the end, basically a "post-credits" scene, we see Mario running around with a huge helmet on his head... he appears to be battling something. It's the helmet of Samus Aran from the Metroid series. That is very strange indeed...
This is definitely a sign that some sort of Mario/Metroid crossover, which is very rare outside of the Smash Bros. games. Perhaps the Origami King also took over Samus' world too?
It's kind of funny we see Mario with a Metroid reference when Metroid Prime 4 has pretty much been delayed infinitely while it is being re-developed. Is it just an easter egg, or is there something more to this?
If you look carefully, there's actually a Donkey Kong paper head on the right side as well, hmmmm!
