Super Mario World
Super Mario World on the Super NES has two types of coins: regular coins and Dragon coins. In most stages, there are 5 Dragon coins (with Yoshi's face on them), collecting all 5 in a stage gets you an instant 1-Up, and it also counts as a regular coin.

Super Mario 64
Super Mario 64 has three types of coins. The traditional yellow (or gold) coins, where 50 coins give a 1-Up, and 100 coins give a Power Star. In addition, each yellow coin will fill Mario's health bar by 1. There are 8 red coins in every stage, collecting all 8 will give a Power Star, in addition each red coin is worth 2 yellow coins. The most rare of all are the blue coins, each blue coin is worth 5 yellow coins!
