It's December, which means Christmas is just around the corner. What's better thing to do than cozy to some gaming with Mario? The Nintendo Switch has been out for two and a half years now and there are a fair share of great software titles in the Super Mario franchise.
The most hardcore fans will have played many games of these days on release day, but don't fret, it's never too late to pick up and play something that you missed out earlier.
Here are the Top 5 Switch games from the Mario universe that SM128C recommends for the 2019 Christmas holiday season:
5. Super Mario Odyssey
If you haven't played it already, Mario's first 3D platformer on the Switch is a jam packed adventure that you can soak in during your Christmas holidays. It's perfect for fans who enjoyed Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy. Cappy is an excellent addition to the cast, and capturing all sorts of friends, enemies and even objects throughout the game is priceless.
Super Mario Odyssey is mainly a solitary experience, great for playing on the Switch's portable mode when you are hiding from your annoying family during Christmas dinner. It's possible to have a limited co-op mode where one player plays as Cappy, but it's not that fun playing as a hat.
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is one of the most complete Mario Kart games, a huge roster of characters, and lots of new and old courses to race on. The battle mode has also been restored to glory. The additions of smart-steering and auto-accelerate make it even easier for newbies to pick up as well.
This game is ranked lower mainly because Mario Kart 8 was released for the Wii U over 5 years ago, and MK8D hasn't received any DLC updates subsequently.
3. Super Mario Party
Mario Party games are always fun with groups of people, but at the same time can potentially destroy your relationships. The traditional board game mode has all sorts of random events that determine who the true "Super Star" is. Luckily there are modes where you can primarily play mini-games without the nonsense.
Most mini-games in Super Mario Party are fairly easy to pick up and play even for novice gamers. If you can manage to keep your emotions in tact, Super Mario Party is excellent for your holiday gatherings with friends and family.
2. Luigi's Mansion 3
Luigi's first adventure in 6 years that is certainly more suitable for Halloween with all the Boos and ghosts that you have to capture.
It's a fun action/adventure game with ample challenge that also features a co-op mode so that you can play together with someone. If you're scared while playing, hide under a blanket to stay warm and cozy.
1. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is probably the best party game on the Nintendo Switch, up to 8 players can duke it up at the same time. Smash pros who know their moves can take on button mashing newbies, and it's still an enjoyable experience.
It's a fun and simple concept that everyone can play, but there is also significant depth found in the single-player "World of Light" adventure mode which features some RPG elements.
