Is Super Mario Galaxy More Replayable Than Odyssey? A Deep Dive

With the recent release of the Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 remake on the Nintendo Switch, these 3D titles can easily be compared to blockbuster Super Mario Odyssey which was originally released in 2017.
After playing through the Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 games, I've found these games to be way more replayable compared to Super Mario Odyssey - here's why.
Once you complete Super Mario Odyssey and collect all the Power Moons, the game will basically feel "empty" because many areas of the game are permanently altered once you complete certain missions - namely the bosses. For example, the Sand Kingdom is permanently changed from the freezing cold night to daytime after you defeat the boss.

Sand Kingdom can no longer be played in night time once you complete the main mission
After beating the bosses, the areas are effectively empty areas, however you can replay bosses by accessing a special area in the Mushroom Kingdom, where they are in a harder mode.
There are some areas you can easily replay - the platforming challenges in secret rooms that can be accessed through Moon Pipes and Warp Pipes.

Outside of playing the Darker Side of the Moon again - the "final challenge" of the game, or going through the final Bowser battle again, there's not a whole lot you can do to re-experience parts of the game without playing the whole thing again - this is a bit of a miss from the developers of the game, but this might simply due to the nature of how the game is designed, which is a freeroaming open-world environment.
In contrast, in the Super Mario Galaxy duology, every Galaxy can be replayed and you can even select the particular Star that you want to redo.

In Super Mario Galaxy, you simply go into the Launch Area to navigate to a particular Galaxy, and on you go to play once again. Similarly in Super Mario Galaxy 2, it's even easier - you just select the World and Galaxy when you are on Starship Mario.

There are some minor caveats such as the Hungry Lumas will be gone if they have already been fed and transformed into a Launch Star, but otherwise the stages will be basically in their original state.
Both of these 3D Mario titles are great games, but in terms of ease of replaying - Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 are far superior games to replay.
