Nintendo has released a new trailer today for Paper Mario: The Origami King, providing more details for the game that is scheduled to be released on July 17.

Besides the characters that we already know of, King Olly - the king of the origami who is the main antagonist and his sister Olivia who wants to foil the plan. We are introduced to a few new characters: Bobby - a Bob-omb that has lost his memory and Professor Toad, who is a professor of ancient history.

When enemies are encountered on the map, a battle will be triggered into the "ring" battle system, where you have to line-up enemies to attack them, there are even Toads in the stands to watch the show. It is kind of bizarre, why would enemies let themselves be lined up that way? And where does the "ring" and stands come from, do they just magically appear?

Interestingly, we see some familiar power-ups for Mario, he has the ability to use fireballs as Fire Mario, whack enemies with a Tanooki tail, and also have a POW block to lay some serious damage.

There are 5 massive streamers that are unfurled from Peach's Castle, which has been captured by King Olly. Mario needs to get to the end of each of these to rescue Peach's Castle. This should mean that there are five main worlds in the game.

However at the end of each streamer, he will be challenged by bosses known as the "Legion of Stationery". Yes, Mario is taking on office supplies! We are shown three of these, Colored Pencils, a huge Rubber Band body, and a roll of Tape.

Interestingly, we see the return of Gooper Blooper, who originated from Super Mario Sunshine, and also made an appearance in Paper Mario: Sticker Star.

One of the collectibles for Paper Mario: The Origami King will be hidden Toads (that are folded up in origami, of course) scattered throughout the worlds, Mario will have to rescue them. These are comparable to the purple coins of Super Mario Odyssey. Poor Toads, at least it's not as bad as being turned into bricks in the original Super Mario Bros. according to the instruction manual.
