Following the success of the recent New Play Control! Mario Power Tennis release on the Wii, Nintendo has announced a new special edition New Play Control! Bundle featuring classic titles Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario 64.
Super Mario 64 was originally released on the N64 in 1996, a Nintendo DS edition named Super Mario 64 DS was released in 2004, and a Wii Virtual Console version was released in 2006. Super Mario Sunshine was released for the GameCube in 2002. Both SM64 and SMS will include enhanced graphics with a 16:9 widescreen mode and surround sound.
"We at Nintendo like to ensure that all players have an opportunity to play all our classic games. This is why we are releasing Super Mario 64 a fourth time, and giving Super Mario Sunshine a second release as we want to make sure that our customers are able to buy another copy despite the fact the Wii can play GameCube games, " explained Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing.
Both games will utilize the Wii remote and nunchuk controls that were used in Super Mario Galaxy, which sold over 7 million copies worldwide. Gamers overwhelming praised the control scheme in SMG, and this new control scheme will greatly enhance the play experience of these fine Mario classics. Although it would be kind of pointless, it is also possible to use traditional controls via a GameCube controller connected to the Wii.
No specific release date was provided, but it is expected the New Play Control! Super Mario Sunshine + Super Mario 64 will be released worldwide in Q3 2009 at a price of US$29 (CAD$37).
