"OLD
FRIENDS, NEW THREATS"
Part 2
The
Super Mario Brothers had just completed their fourth adventure
in Dinosaur Land, Bowser was defeated for the third time,
Princess Toadstool and the seven Yoshi eggs were all saved and
life was once again back to normal in the Mushroom Kingdom.
Through the years, much of the land that had been invaded by
the Koopa was reclaimed in the name of righteousness and the
various countries that composed the Mushroom Kingdom had all
devised new measures to better secure their nations safety.
There was peace. And the Super Mario was making good use of
that new found peace by settling into a luxurious new castle
that was built entirely for him in his rewarded countryside
now known as ‘Super Mario Land‘. And with Mario spending
all of his free time focusing purely on Princess Toadstool and
their mushrooming relationship, Luigi had concluded that it
was time to leave the Mushroom Kingdom and for the first time
ever, find that life outside the shadow of his twin brother.
Luigi wanted
to travel the Mushroom World and experience the lands of his
birth peacefully and solitarily. He wanted to find himself and
uncover his purpose in life beyond the second warrior against
a pestilence of great evil. Bidding a heart filled farewell to
the Mushroom Kingdom, all of his close friends, and his twin
brother with whom he was never separated from for more than a
few days… Luigi set out on a journey that would ultimately
change his life. Traveling for many months on foot, Luigi saw
the most breathtaking terrains and had immersed himself in the
world that long ago had seemed all that but of a dream.
It would be
in the flower kingdoms of Sarasaland that Luigi would find
that which he had been searching for all of his life. At the
annual Revelry of Spring, Luigi wandered through the crowded
festivity until he faced the horizon of the setting sun. What
locked onto his sight was the picture of a lone woman dancing
atop a flowery hill, as the heavens showered her with
sparkling white flower petals. Walking through a patch of
daisies, Luigi's and the woman’s eyes immediately locked on
to each another, their souls connecting, becoming one. Bowing
respectfully before the fair maiden, she offered Luigi a
single dance that would last for as long as the two heard the
soft music of spring in the background. Long after the
celebration had ended and all the kind villagers had gone back
into their respective homes, Luigi and the woman laid down
next to each other amongst the flowers, gazing up at the stars
and pouring their hearts out to each other. Luigi soon found
himself in a blossoming love with none other than Princess
Daisy, the Flower Child of all the Sarasaland kingdoms.
Days turned
into weeks… Weeks turned into months… And months turned
into a couple of years as Luigi and the Flower Princess fell
more and more in love with each other. During their
relationship, Luigi lived peacefully amongst the citizens of
Sarasaland and he was sure that at long last he had found his
true place in the world. Culminating in a grand engagement to
someday wed the Flower Princess, all seemed right in Luigi’s
heart… But as history had shown, it wouldn’t last for
long.
One ill-fated
day in Sarasaland, the sun blacked out, the world grew cold
and the skies became blanketed in that of an ominous black
cloud of impending doom. For weeks this cloud stirred in the
heavens high above until a crack of blinding white light shot
forth and from its heart what did emerge was that of a giant
spacecraft, causing chaos and fear to awaken in all the hearts
of the citizens of Sarasaland. Although Princess Daisy had
spoken to her people urging them not to panic, as the true
intentions of what was happening was still yet unknown, even
Luigi couldn’t help but share a sense of dread and worry for
the mystery that surrounded the craft. Not knowing what to do,
Luigi had decided that it was time to write to the brother
with whom he hadn’t spoken to in years and urge him to come
down to Sarasaland and help him investigate the alien
occurrence. As he awaited word from his brother, all he could
do was hope that whatever was hovering over the lands really
did hold no malicious intent.
After a few
days of heightened tension as the spacecraft sat atop the sky,
the moment finally came when the ship opened up and what did
materialize through the mist was that of a purple, ant-like
creature. Known only as the space monster Tatanga, the alien
used his powerful technology to hypnotize all the creatures of
Sarasaland and place them under his dark spell. Any creature
under this hex would obey Tatanga’s very whim and so with
his control stretching across all of Sarasaland, Tatanga could
enact his real motive behind the invasion.
Tatanga and
his army of monsters raided the Sarasaland Castle, the only
place unaffected by Tatanga’s hypnosis, in search for the
great treasure he had been searching of for many light years.
Coming face to face with Luigi, Princess Daisy and the King of
Sarasaland, Tatanga demanded that Daisy come with him.
The King, vehemently refusing this horrifying request, was
then shot with a strange weapon causing him to become
paralyzed. As turmoil erupted, Luigi panicked and called for
his true love to run for her life as he himself lunged
at the space monster. Falling to the same fate as the King,
Luigi was shot and paralyzed. Alone and defenseless, Tatanga
abducted Princess Daisy and took her onboard his ship for
unknown and mysterious purposes. No one knows exactly what
happened to Daisy while being held captive, but soon after her
abduction, Tatanga was set on making her his new wife and thus
fulfill an ancient intergalactic prophecy of world domination.
Meanwhile,
the Super Mario had been ecstatic to receive a letter from his
brother with whom he missed terribly, although the strange
occurrence in Sarasaland did have him worried. Anxious to see
his brother and uncover the mystery of the other worldly
visitor, Mario set out at once to the land of the flowers to
join his brother’s side in what was looking to be a brand
new adventure.
Upon reaching
the lands, he kept being attacked by any and all creatures,
some of them alien to even the Mushroom World and so it became
evidently clear that something was terribly wrong and that its
source had to have been coming from the very reason why he was
there in the first place. Rushing over to the
Sarasaland Castle to speak with his brother, Mario became
horrified at the sight of his brother and the King lying on
the floor unmoving. Holding his brother in his arms, he was
relieved to see that he was still alive. However, he was in
some very strange catatonic-like state, whispering something
softly over and over again:
“It… abducted… Daisy.”
With those
three words spoken, Mario knew what he then had to do. He
would have to set out on his first adventure alone. It would
be a quest to save his brother’s fiancée from the clutches
of an evil space monster, lift whatever spell that was now
plaguing the lands, and find a cure for whatever ailment that
was now afflicting his dear brother and the King of Sarasaland.
